“For nearly three decades, BBH has been more than just my workplace—it’s felt like a family,” says Harry Reavis, Vice President, Systems.
As Vice President of BBH’s Global Data Center Management, Harry recognizes the importance of close collaboration between technical teams and business stakeholders. Working in cross-functional groups, Harry’s team proactively identifies and resolves complex challenges to ensure seamless operation of BBH’s global data centers. Their hands-on approach keeps critical systems running smoothly while fostering a culture of quiet leadership and continuous improvement—qualities that have defined Harry’s nearly three-decade career at BBH.
Recently, we sat down with Harry to talk about his career, the realities of managing facilities on a global scale, and how family values help drive business goals.
How did you become a Global Data Center Manager?
I joined Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH) in 1997 as an Automation Specialist. I quickly found myself drawn to the rhythm and complexity of data storage. When the opportunity arose to join the Storage group I embraced it, becoming a Storage Administrator and ultimately a Backup Administrator. As soon as I got my hands on the storage systems, I knew I’d found my niche. There was something satisfying about keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes.
What does Global Data Center Management entail?
Ensuring seamless operations across BBH requires efficiency and redundancy, and that’s where my team comes in. We oversee all BBH’s data center facilities, supporting and powering the infrastructure that keeps every department connected and productive. From managing each office’s main distribution frame (MDF) to coordinating technology, relocations, and upgrades, we make sure the systems behind the scenes are reliable, physically secure, and aligned with the firm’s evolving needs. Whether we’re providing technical support to facilities, enabling smooth communication between teams, or ensuring our offices are equipped to support BBH’s global operations, our work touches every corner of the organization.
What’s the secret to your 28-year BBH career?
I think my career reads like a masterclass in quiet leadership, technical excellence, and personal growth. My ability to listen has evolved over time, thanks to my wife and three daughters. They’ve taught me to not just hear what’s said, but to notice what isn’t—as unspoken cues often matter the most. That skill translates directly into how I lead and work with others.
My technical acumen, paired with emotional intelligence, helps me remain grounded and effective. I am not the loudest voice in the room, but I am often the one people come to when things get tough. I didn’t set out to build a legacy—I just showed up every day, did the work, and treated people with respect. Turns out, that’s what lasts.
What’s been your most memorable moment and greatest learning over your career?
Early in my career, we had a major overnight backup fail. I came in early, stayed calm, and focused on solutions. By 9 a.m., everything was restored. That experience taught me that calm confidence and preparation will always outperform panic. Reflecting on my journey, I’ve learned that whether you’re launching your career or embracing new opportunities, a commitment to dedication, adaptability, and treating others with respect will pave the way for lasting success in technology—and in life.
