Tell us a bit about your team. What is HR Systems?
You may be surprised to learn that HR’s landscape includes more than 50 applications and services that support BBHers in their daily work. The HR Systems team partners with HR to develop and maintain these technologies, with a primary focus on the Workday application. HR Systems develops and supports over 150 different Workday integrations while also providing demographic worker data to our key internal applications. That’s in addition to configuring Workday to support the functional areas within HR as well as for our annual processes such as benefits and time off tracking.
Can you share what your role entails?
My career has always centered around HR Systems, beginning as a PeopleSoft HR Programmer, progressing to a to Team Lead, advancing to HRIT management, and now leading the HR Systems team responsible for Workday configuration and development. Throughout my journey, I’ve adapted to changing responsibilities—from programming to leadership—and embraced technological shifts, including the transition from PeopleSoft HR to Workday’s HCM cloud-based platform. Today, as technology rapidly evolves, my team is actively exploring Workday’s AI capabilities to enhance user experience and drive greater efficiency.
What are the main challenges you face in your role?
Finding people with Workday experience is challenging, as our team uses tools unique to Workday, which differ from languages like Java or Python. HR Systems aims to bridge the gap between business and technical language, and the team consists of functional configuration and technical integration developers. As Workday’s framework and capabilities continue to evolve, so does the expertise of my talented team of developers. It’s exciting to navigate this change, enhancing our applications, leveraging the latest Workday functionality, and collaborating with our business users in HR to make the application more efficient and user-friendly.
What keeps you passionate about your work?
I serve on the leadership team for BBH’s Women in Technology (WIT) Internal Events, which fosters skill-building and career growth with a technology focus. Our goal as a leadership team is to provide knowledge and opportunities to our BBH colleagues to expand their skillset and further develop their career and relationships with a lens on Technology. This community played a vital role in my own career growth and development at BBH. Transitioning from programmer to team leader was a significant learning curve, but it gave me a broader perspective and allowed me to help others prioritize and manage their work. It’s an interesting dynamic of a career journey that while your own skills grow, whether technical, strategic or managerial, your responsibilities change with experience and grow as well. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have grown so much in my career, and to pay it forward as a part of my work with WIT.
