Foreign exchange is a market built on movement: currencies trade around the clock, policy decisions shift dynamics overnight, and industry change is constant. For Nicole Walsh, that constant motion is what makes the world of FX so compelling.
“The market operates 24 hours a day, six days a week, and is continually influenced by geopolitical developments, world events, policy decisions, and regulatory changes,” she said. “No two days are the same, which keeps the work interesting and provides endless opportunities to learn and grow.”
Walsh joined BBH’s foreign exchange (FX) team 18 years ago. Over time, her focus has evolved from understanding how FX products work to shaping where they go next. Today, she acts as the bridge between clients, the desk, and technology teams, translating business requirements into system requirements and helping ensure solutions deliver the intended business outcomes for clients.
At its core, she says, her role is about product innovation: ensuring BBH’s FX technology and solutions remain market leading and continue to deliver differentiated functionality.
From ideas to execution
For Walsh, the most rewarding moments are when an idea becomes real.
“There is nothing quite like starting with a sketch on a notepad or a conversation in a meeting, then watching that concept turn into live functionality that clients are using.”
InfoFX Live is one example. InfoFX is the first third party automated FX solution for security related FX, which has since grown to include restricted market and corporate action capabilities. What began as early sketches and team discussion became a market-leading application that many clients now rely on, and a core differentiator of BBH’s FX offering.
That path from idea to execution reflects what Walsh sees as the defining strength of BBH’s FX business: a consultative approach grounded in products, expertise, transparency, and partnership. “We take the time to understand each client’s unique FX needs,” she says, “then identify and implement solutions that drive scale, efficiency, and automation”
Consultative approach
Recent conversations with clients have centered on the move to T+1 settlement in Europe, the UK, and Switzerland, as well as demand around emerging markets and exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
Those discussions are practical as much as strategic. For T+1, BBH created a simulator to help clients understand the potential impact on their FX activity. In restricted markets, the team keeps clients informed and explores additional markets to add to InfoFX, with the latest addition of the Colombian Peso. As more clients launch ETFs, BBH is also looking to develop InfoFX functionality designed to optimize related workflows.
