U.S. Large Cap Equity
Our flagship investment strategy focused on leading businesses with market capitalizations of greater than $5 billion
BBH Core Select Approach
At Brown Brothers Harriman, we use a transparent, value-driven approach to buy and own a select group of high quality businesses for relatively long periods of time. Our aim is to grow capital at attractive rates with an emphasis on protecting against permanent capital impairment in each individual holding.
On average, Core Select (our flagship investment strategy) invests in approximately 20 to 30 companies that meet specific business, management, and financial criteria. We engage when there is a meaningful discount between BBH’s estimate of intrinsic value and the market price of a company’s shares. On average, portfolio companies are owned for 3 to 5 years or longer.
Businesses meeting our investment criteria are well positioned to create value for shareholders through varying economic and market environments. We believe in the concept of a two-sided margin of safety that encompasses both the fundamental strength of a business and its valuation.
Core Select is not managed to resemble any benchmark or index. The portfolio typically consists of companies with market capitalizations greater than $5 billion that are headquartered in North America, as well as in certain global firms located in other developed regions.
